Free the Nipple

I get that you religiously work out at the gym and eat 800 calories a day and you are proud of your body. What I don’t get is why public figures find it completely acceptable to appear in public nearly nude, that is until I discovered the Free the Nipple movement. Who knew there was such a thing?

After Kendall Jenner appeared in a translucent blouse showing her nipples in support of the movement, she posted an article on her website proclaiming, “I really don’t see what the big deal is with going braless! I think it’s cool and I really just don’t care! It’s sexy, it’s comfortable, and I’m cool with my breasts. That’s it!”

I have also seen dozens of snaps of Melanie Griffith in gym attire, and it is clear she cares about fitness as well as her appearance. Unfortunately, even maturity didn’t stop this 58-year-old actress from appearing braless in a sheer dress.

What is disturbing about this recent narcissistic Hollywood trend is that it is poorly thought out and skin deep. You may be proud of your body, but maybe everyone doesn’t wish to see it, like small children. And what happens when the not so beautiful bodies feel they, too, should Free the Nipple as well. Call it body shaming, but I really don’t want to see a 300-pound woman with sagging double EE breasts in a hot pink body stocking. And what of men? In a world where gender equality is touted as one the highest virtues of the land, are we really ready to see big harry men with angry red nipples in translucent beater tees? And where will it end? It is already acceptable for starlets and rappers to show their butts, genitals anyone?

What these women fail to understand is that rather than gaining equality with men they are making themselves sexual objects to be ogled and lusted after. Matthew 5:28 tells us, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” We all know that men are visual creatures and that X and Y chromosomes are different. It’s an absurdly stupid argument that only serves to confuse men more about how they are to treat women. And honestly, do we need anymore of that?
