When the Internet Goes Dark

Since the media consolidation in the early 1980s, just six mega corporations have owned the U.S. media, making controlling the free flow of information as easy as stealing candy from a baby, that is until the baby grew up and the internet was born. With the popularity of alternative websites such as Breitbart, Infowars, Drudge Report, and the Daily Caller and other alternative proverbial flies spoiling the ointment of control, the left’s go-to playbook of name calling, race baiting, and shaming of anyone who holds a dissenting ideal other than what it doles out, simply no longer works.

The mainstream media’s preachy thinly veiled propaganda that masquerades as news has further driven the popularity of alternative information and news. A report in ProWebNews in April revealed that the Drudge Report, a right-leaning website, hit 1 billion page views. In contrast, the mainstream news media has little regular viewers other than the elderly or infirm, which has translated into their message falling flat or not being received at all. The left has constructed an audience made of smoke and mirrors. And during this heated presidential race, where controlling the talking points is imperative to the left’s success, desperate times call for desperate measures.

The familiar tactic of ignoring or minimizing the influence of the alternative right has given way to openly assaulting free speech. Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton resorted to calling out by name those alternative media stars who have dared to voice opposition to the prescribed talking points in a speech she gave in Reno, Nevada. Clinton accused Alex Jones, the popular host of Infowars. of having a dark heart because of his view that the Oklahoma City bombing was an inside job. Clinton further called for the shutdown (or takedown) of alternative right websites in a rancor-filled rant that demonstrated her contempt for free speech. YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter are actively rigging, removing, or censoring those users who don’t agree with their politics.

Control and intimidation tactics that accuse the alternative right of being dangerous, absurd, or rife with conspiracy theorists, is not enough to turn back the tide of the left’s slipping power over the narrative. They have brazenly and openly supported censorship, such as the very public lock down of DCLeaks, a site that releases information on political figures that had part of its website taken offline after releasing documents on billionaire donor George Soros as well as having its Twitter account suspended, ” for reasons unknown.” There are too many social media accounts being suspended to even keep count.

The free exchange of ideas is dangerous to the goals of globalism and the tightly held flow of information to the masses. Failing censorship, those in power have every intention of pulling the plug altogether on dissenting views. It is no accident that the United States’ machinations to hand over the reigns of the internet since 2015 is now close to reality, and right before this all important election, which isn’t about left or right but globalism versus nationalism. The Wall Street Journal reports, “When the Obama administration announced its plan to give up U.S. protection of the internet, it promised the United Nations would never take control. But because of the administration’s naiveté or arrogance, U.N. control is the likely result if the U.S. gives up internet stewardship as planned at midnight on Sept. 30, 2016.”

There is no doubt that the internet will go dark, with only those websites that foist the one world view of the elites free to operate. History has show us time and again that dictators must control the ideals of its people to succeed. One only needs to look at North Korea as a modern day example of absolute corruption and control to a subversive people. What is so terrifying this time is that the entire world is being subjugated to a maniacal few.
