Obama State Department Holdovers Can’t Resist Meddling in Hungary

If you are still skeptical about the level of U.S. government involvement in mainstream media, consider that the U.S. State Department wants to drop $700,000 to export their media meddling across the pond in Hungary. Holdovers from the deep recesses of the Obama administration’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor announced the media plan in November in its call for requests for proposals (RFP) that has largely been ignored by mainstream media.

Committed globalist within the State Department apparently felt it was a good idea to take our tax dollars to support “democracy” in Hungary, one of the European Union’s (EU) most vocal opponents to Soros funded groups meddling in its national, democratic sovereignty. Hungary has also vocally and staunchly remained steadfast against the EU’s push to open its borders to unfettered immigration.

It may be that since Soros funded groups have been cut off at the knees in Hungary, his allies and friends within the Bureau are just looking for the back door entrance to the concert. Globalist groupies in bed with Soros will recognize the RFP as a fans-only invitation to the party. For a nation who’s own media has been directly linked to ties within the deep state and has been torn asunder since the election of President Trump with unrelenting and unproven charges of Russian collusion, the irony is exquisite. The RFP announcement says it better than I ever could:

“DRL’s goal is to support media outlets operating outside the capital in Hungary to produce fact-based reporting and increase their audience and economic sustainability. The program should increase citizens’ access to objective information about domestic and global issues of public importance, by enhancing local media’s ability to engage a larger audience, including their print, multimedia, and online readership. The program should improve the quality of local traditional and online media and increase the public’s access to reliable and unbiased information. Program activities could include training for journalists and editors and/or media outlets on creative applications of investigative and data journalism, data analysis, and multimedia content production for reaching a wider local audience; providing coaching, training, technical and financial assistance to media outlets; providing national and international exposure to foster local journalists’ professional development; and small grants and tools to help independent local media engage more effectively with their audiences on topics that are important to the community. Activities could also include opportunities for citizens to build their capacities as citizen journalists.

Projects should aim to have impact that leads to democratic reforms, and should have the potential for sustainability beyond DRL resources. DRL’s preference is to avoid duplicating past efforts by supporting new and creative approaches. This does not exclude from consideration projects that improve upon or expand existing successful projects in a new and complementary way.”

Certainly, this dog whistle to Obama resisters and Soros funded groups to spread some globalist propaganda couldn’t be any clearer. Viktor Orban, Hungary’s prime minister, who is seeking a third consecutive term in elections expected in April, announced in October that he was coming after Soros and the EU for its refugee sharing program, in which German officials are calling for the denial of billions in euro funding for EU members that don’t comply.

Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, speaking out on anti-nationalism said that, “Islam, which despises Europe, transgresses (the continent) like a knife through butter.” Going even further on EU meddling in Hungarian affairs, he blamed Brussels and Merkel for the crisis, saying “Christian values are being deliberately destroyed by anti-clerical, anti-family and anti-nationalist attitudes.”

Daily News Hungary reported that House Speaker László Kövér insisted that Hungary’s position in Europe is “stronger than the size of its population or the output of its economy,” therefore it is a crucial country for the EU to preserve “its Christian character.” That is why, he said, “Hungary is being attacked” by “certain institutions and bureaucrats” of the EU, most of whom are “in the pockets of George Soros.”

No doubt, this charge against bureaucrats includes our very own State Department. It’s obvious that meddling with the media of an already democratic Hungary does not mesh with Trump’s ideology of strong nation states and his aversion to global policies. Perhaps someone should tell Trump what’s going on at his own State Department. Reign well.
